The scroll around St. Michael is a quote in Latin from the second part of Matthew 4:10 "Dominum Deum tuum adorabis, et illi soli servies", in English translated as: ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.' The arrogant scroll of the dragon: "non serviam" (I will not serve) is ripped into pieces.
